How to Choose a Plumber in Calgary: 7 Questions to Ask

Anyone can put a wrench on a magnet sign. A few straight questions quickly separate a licensed journeyman from someone who will leave you with a callback. Here are the seven worth asking before you book.

1. Are you Red Seal certified and licensed in Alberta? This is the baseline for real plumbing and gas work.
2. Are you insured and WCB registered? Ask to see it. It protects you if something goes wrong on your property.
3. Who actually does the work? A journeyperson, or an unsupervised apprentice?
4. Do I get the quote in writing before you start? The number should not change afterward.
5. Do you pull permits when the job needs them? Especially for gas and larger work.
6. Do you stand behind the work? Ask what happens if something is not right.
7. Will you tell me if I do not need the work? The best answer is sometimes no.

If a plumber is happy to answer all seven plainly, you are probably in good hands.
