5 Signs Your Calgary Home Needs Repiping

Most homes do not need a full repipe, but a few clear signs mean it is worth a proper look rather than another patch. Here are the five that come up most in Calgary.

• You have grey Poly-B pipe. On its own this is the biggest one, because of the insurance issue and because the pipe gets brittle with age.
• Discoloured or metallic-tasting water. Rust or sediment in the water often points to aging pipe or an aging water heater.
• Pressure that keeps dropping. Corrosion and scale narrow old pipe over time, and it usually gets worse, not better.
• Repeated pinhole leaks. One leak is a repair. A third leak in the same system is the pipe telling you something.
• Fittings that weep. Poly-B crimp fittings are often the first thing to fail, quietly, behind a wall.
